How the game works

Gather information

With each step the students take, part of the map in the game is revealed. They collect information about the location of the flag by correctly answering questions about classmates. The questions are based on the completed questionnaire on a specific topic within citizenship education.

Outwit your opponents

Throw bombs to slow down other groups and collect superpowers for the final. Students can communicate with other groups via the app to plan strategies, collaborate and outsmart other groups. Every second counts at Capture The Flag!

Capture the flag!

The game ends as soon as a group manages to capture the flag. The winning group is crowned the ultimate victors. The students go home with fun stories and at the same time have learned what their classmates think about certain topics within citizenship education.

One or two hours of gaming fun

There are 2 versions of Capture The Flag. You can choose the version you want when booking. The game is a nice change from a ‘regular’ lesson about citizenship education. You need 90 minutes to start and close the game with the 1-hour variant. For the 2-hour variant, take 2.5 hours into account. This game can therefore be played during a block hour, an activity week, or other times when you have a little more time than usual.

1-hour version

  • Walk 2 kilometers in 1 hour.
  • Gather information by answering questions about players.
  • Throw bombs to slow down other teams.
  • Capture The Flag and win!

2-hour version

  • Walk 4 kilometres in 2 hours.
  • Gather information by answering questions about players.
  • Extra photo and video challenges
  • Extra collaboration between teams
  • Throw bombs to slow down other teams.
  • Capture The Flag and win!

Bad weather? Play the game indoors!

Normally you play Capture The Flag outside, at any location. In bad weather, you have the option to play the indoor version of Capture The Flag. The students then play Capture The Flag at school or an indoor location that you arrange yourself. The indoor version works the same as the outdoor version. The only difference is that with the indoor version, the groups do not have to go outside and walk to go to a new level. In the indoor version they can stay indoors and have to scan a QR code to get to a new level.

You may decide at the last minute to play the indoor version of the game. Please note that the indoor version requires additional preparation from the teacher. (About 10 to 20 minutes) The QR codes must be printed out and hidden. After booking, you will receive further instructions on how to prepare the indoor version.

A unique and active citizenship education lesson

Are you looking for a fun and unique citizenship education lesson? Look no further than “Capture the Flag – citizenship education edition”! This tailor-made game is designed to let students work together, have fun, and at the same time learn more about how they and their fellow students think about themes within citizenship education. From answering questions about each other to throwing bombs and collecting superpowers, every move counts as the groups try to outsmart each other to capture the flag first.

If you decide to play this game, make sure that the students have completed the questionnaire at least 3 days before the start of the game. You can assign the questionnaire as homework, or have it completed in an earlier lesson. You will need about 20 minutes for this.

Themes Citizenship education

Before the game, the students all complete a questionnaire about a chosen theme within citizenship education. The questions are designed in such a way that students can relate them to their private life, their life at school, and their role as a person in the world.
